喜仁龍是西方近代漢學研究的先行者。在書畫方面最早涉獵。他的《中國繪畫》也是藏家必備的架上書。白威廉又名巴爾，中德混血兒，清末在上海經商，是英國皇家亞洲社派駐華北的秘書長。喜仁龍爲他撰寫的這本圖錄以手工紙印刷，毛邊，深棕封皮襯燙金書口，36幀插圖剪貼精裝，限量700本，本書為第354號。
