Lot Description
WOOLF, Virginia (1882-1941). A Haunted House and Other Short Stories. London: The Hogarth Press, 1943.
8vo. Half-title. (Browning as usual.) Original publisher’s crimson cloth, spine gilt-lettered; original cream dust jacket printed in black by Vanessa Bell.
FIRST EDITION, published by Leonard Woolf after Virginia Woolf’s death. In the introduction, he recalls: “For some time before [Virginia’s] death we had often discussed the possibility of her republishing Monday or Tuesday, or publishing a new volume of collected short stories. Finally, in 1940, she decided that she would get together a new volume…and include in it…some unpublished [stories]….In the present volume I have tried to carry out her intention” (p.7). Kirkpatrick A28a.
