This icon depicts the miracle of Mozhaisk of 1302, when a besieging army of Tartars was turned away by the appearance of a giant apparition of St Nicholas above the city. The saint appeared brandishing a sword in his right hand, and the city of Mozhaisk in his left hand; with silverplate okhlad.
