Lot Description

[Militaria] Large assortment of medals and related items from the Spanish American War, World Wars I and II.

Lot comprised of a large selection of medals, ribbons, insignia, and other artifacts related to service in the Spanish American War, Mexican Border War, World Wars I and II, and other conflicts.

Highlights include:

Approx. 14 medals belonging to James J. Connelly of Walton, New York (as per consignor's modern notes). Photocopied service records indicate that Connelly served with the 35th and 39th US Volunteer Infantries. Included in the group is a Spanish American War Service medal, New York Spanish American War medal, New York Mexican Border War medal, New York 10-year National Guard medal, French Verdun medal, and others. -- An Honorable Discharge document identified to George E. Hardwick for his service with the US Army from 1898-1926, housed together in a riker mount with a panoramic photograph of a group of soldiers (approx. 6 1/4 x 14 3/4 in.) (vertical crease down middle), and 6 medals. The photo and medals lack identification, but considering they were kept together with the document by the consignor, it is possible that they belonged to Hardwick. Medals include a Philippine Insurrection medal, World War I service medal presented by New York state, Spanish American War service medals (one presented by New York state), and others. -- 10 medals, including Order of the Serpent medal, Spanish American War service medal, World War I Victory medal, Mexican Border War service medals, and masonic medals. -- 5 USS Olympia pinbacks. -- 5 examples of insignia tentatively identified as representing the Spanish Blue Division from the World War II period.

Together, more than 40 items. Wear consistent with age and use.
