Lot Description

Pommel Holsters for Single Shot Flintlock Pistols
Mexican American War

Holster bodies nominally 14" long, about 5" wide at the mouths and 2" at the toe plugs. Leather construction with ammunition carriers on the face of the holster with five .60" diameter tin tubes with flap covers for nominally .54 caliber paper pistol cartridges. The two holsters are attached via a nominally 5" wide leather strap with a 3"x2" oval hole for the saddle horn. In Scott Meadows exhaustive work U.S. Military Holsters and Pistol Cartridge Boxes, a similar pair is pictured and described on pages 26 & 27 and Meadows notes that he believes this holster set is for the M1819 flintlock pistol. Set is well worn, missing the flaps for both holsters.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
