Lot Description

Group of 6 Early Socket Bayonets, Mostly English

1) Relic condition Brown Bess Socket Bayonet. 15.5" blade, 3.875" friction fit socket with reinforced rim, 19.75" overall. Illegible marking on face of bayonet. Socket with damage, impact marks, repairs and grind marks.
2) English Style Fusil or Carbine Socket Bayonet. 12"unfluted blade, 3.125" friction fit socket with reinforced rim, 15.25" overall. A weak 26 is stamped on the face of the blade. Heavily oxidized with roughness and pitting.
3) Early, crude and heavy socket bayonet, circa mid to late 18th century. 16" unfluted blade, 3.25" unbridged friction fit socket, flat sided shank, 19.5" overall. Socket with holes for tension screws to secure the bayonet more tightly to a barrel. Socket chipped at rear. Near relic condition.
4) Crude, likely American copy of a Dutch or early English "flat blade" bayonet. 12.75" flat blade, 3.375" unbridged friction fit socket, 16.675" overall. Unmarked. Very crudely made with sloppy workmanship and obvious areas of delamination and old repairs. About relic condition.
5) English Carbine Socket Bayonet. 14.5" unfluted blade, 3.5" friction fit socket with reinforced rim. Blade weakly marked S.H. Moderately oxidized with some surface rust.
6) Dutch Flat Blade Socket Bayonet. 12.5" flat blade, 2.75" unbridged friction fit socket, 15.5" overall. Socket engraved No 70. Moderately oxidized with wear and some pitting.
