LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865). Reports from the Joint Select Committee to Enquire into the Condition of the State Bank of Illinois, together with the Accompanying Documents, Made to Both Houses of the General Assembly. January 21, 1840. Springfield: William Walters, 1840.
8vo (222 x 140 mm). Disbound. (Spine crudely reinforced, first and last leaves reinserted, marginal spotting and browning.)
FIRST EDITION. Lincoln was one of seven members of the joint select committee investigating the state bank and was concerned about the bank's efforts to divert Galena's lead trade from St. Louis to an Alton merchant. The Committee closed its investigations on 20 January 1840.
