Lot Description
BION, Nicolas (1652?-1733). Traite de la construction et des principaux usages des instruments de mathematique. Paris: Charles-Antoine Jombert and Nion Fils, 1752.
4to (250 x 196 mm). Engraved portrait, engraved frontispiece, 37 engraved plates (4 folding), numerous woodcut head- and tail-pieces. (A few leaves browned, some light spotting.) Contemporary French mottled calf, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands gilt, brown morocco lettering piece gilt, edges sprinkled (some light wear, joints starting).
Fourth edition, first published in 1709, "a fairly complete list of instruments normally constructed during the first quarter of the eighteenth century" (DSB II, p.133).
