8vo (237 x 164 mm). Engraved frontispiece, 11 engraved plates "under the superintendence" of Frederick A. Heath. Original publisher's red cloth gilt (some very light wear to extremities). 
 
FIRST EDITION of the first appearance of Dickens's mysterious tale. "To Be Read at Dusk" was first separately published in 1891 by forger Thomas J. Wise with a misleading imprint dated 1852. Gimbel E120.
