Lot Description

A Significant Signed Baseball Featuring Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Hank Aaron (Beckett Authentication Services Letter)

The story of this extraordinary assembly of baseball legends begins in the mid-1930s, when The Sultan of Swat and The Iron Horse electrified Atlanta during a special exhibition game.

According to the ball’s original caretaker – just nine years old when he witnessed the event –this very baseball was one Babe Ruth launched out of the park that day, a claim he proudly repeated to family, friends, and anyone willing to listen.

Eager to mark the moment, the lucky boy secured signatures from Yankee icons Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Red Ruffing, and manager Joe
McCarthy, along with the autograph of legendary sportswriter Grantland Rice, transforming the ball into a time capsule of baseball royalty.

For decades, the ball stayed in the family, eventually passing to the next generation who added the signature of Hank Aaron (and fellow Braves Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews), the man
who would one day surpass Ruth’s home run crown. In doing so, this baseball became a rare bridge between two towering eras of the diamond.

This lot is located in Chicago.
