the front of gavel inscribed, "M.J. McQuade, Exalted Ruler/ Cervus Alces," surrounding roundel depicting an elk, the border inscribed, "Utica, N.Y./ No. 33/ B.P.O. Elks./ 1902", the back of gavel inscribed, "Compliments of Geo. W. Benham./ Exalted Ruler./ Auburn Lodge./ B.P.O.E. 474.", the handle decorated with winding flowers and inscribed, "Charity, Justice, Brotherly Fidelity."
