Two Japanese Bronze Covered Incense Burners, Late Meiji Period
Late Meiji Period
The larger example having a squat, rounded body, flanked by a pair of sea horse-form handles, resting on three feet each cast in the form of a bamboo section, the exterior decorated with guardian figures riding on shishi lions; the smaller example with a square sectioned body above a square stand, having an pair of upright handles, the exterior cast with water dragons, the domed cover surmounted by a mythical beast-form finial, undersides with maker's marks.
Height of taller 12 1/4 in., 31 cm.
