W.R. Cross
CDV on cardstock mount of Sitting Bull and his wife Travoriet, with "Sitting Bull" penciled on verso, and W.R. Cross, Niobrara, NE backmark.
The photograph was taken at Fort Randall, SD, in 1882. Sitting Bull (1834-1890, Hunkpapa Sioux) is known to have sold his own autographs and photographs. It has been suggested that the signature on verso was penciled in Sitting Bull's hand, although this cannot be confirmed with all certainty.
