18th/19th Century
The thirteenth Mughal emperor (r. 1719 -1748), seated in a throne on a terrace, dressed opulently with a dagger in his kammarband, his face in profile framed by a halo, holding his hunting falcon on one hand, the bird adorned with a ruby necklace, with two attendants behind, one holding a peacock fan, an inscription in nasta’liq above identifying the sitter.
