A Chinese Copper Inlaid Archaistic Bronze Vessel, Dui, Ming Dynasty or Earlier

Of ovoid form, the exterior is finely decorated with bands of copper inlay depicting taotie masks and stylized kui dragons. The vessel is applied to each side with an ox mask suspending a loose-ring handle, and raised on three slender tapering legs similarly inlaid with copper. The domed cover is surmounted by three finials in the form of seated geese, designed to serve as feet when the cover is inverted.
