The magazine follower tube has the smooth Civil War era base plate. Standard Burnside Rifle Company markings, matching serial number on barrel and receiver. A weak script ESA cartouche is present behind the saddle bar plate. Some 1,108 Burnside produced M1865 Spencer Carbines were altered to Army Rifles by Springfield Armory in 1871, making this a fairly rare field trials rifle. {ANTIQUE}
