Lot Description
Fullstock Percussion Pennsylvania Smooth Rifle by Nathan Moll
.45 Cal. 39.75" barrel length. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish set in full length faux tiger stripe maple stock with brass stock fittings and fixed German Silver front blade and rear notch sights. Single shot percussion rifle featuring a single trigger, a cheek rest to left butt, and a brass patchbox secured by an iron latch. Lockmaker mark has been worn down with only the WARRANTED mark remaining legible. Barrel affixed with a brass nameplate engraved with the maker mark N. MOLL within wiggle line borders, indicating it was produced by Pennsylvania gunmaker Nathan Moll (1814-1882). The son of Johannes (John) Moll, Nathan Moll learned the gunmaking trade from his elder brother John Moll, Jr. in Allentown, Pennsylvania. By the late 1830s, Nathan Moll had established his own business in the Lower Saucon Valley, where he resided until the 1870s. {ANTIQUE}
