First American edition, comprising sheets of the suppressed 1865 English printing of Alice, here with a new title-page. The first issue by Macmillan in London was cancelled at the last minute by Carroll due to the poor printing quality of the illustrations by Tenniel. The remaining unbound sheets were then sold to Appleton in New York and issued with a new title-page.
