William Faden's important Revolutionary War map of British General William Howe's New York campaign in the fall of 1776, considered "the most accurate published delineation of the movements of the armies of Washington and Howe in Westchester." (Nebenzahl) Based on drawings made by British engineer Claude Joseph Sauthier, Faden's map depicts Howe's landing and then victory on Long Island, the Battle of White Plains, and then victory over American forces at Fort Washington, securing for the British, Manhattan island. The map also shows the location of General Cornwallis's camp following their taking of Fort Lee on November 18. Remarkably, Faden published this map only three months following the last troop movements shown.
