119 (of 126) volumes, small 8vo. Numerous engravings. (Offsetting and spotting to text, mainly to frontispieces and engraved titles, a few volumes dampstained.) Contemporary half olive calf gilt, marbled boards (light rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Stradbroke (armorial bookplate).

FIRST ONE-VOLUME EDITIONS OF 6 JANE AUSTEN TITLES, comprising: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion (Northanger Abbey and Persuasion being published together). "No English reissues of Jane Austen's novels is known after 1818 until in 1832 Richard Bentley decided to include them in his series of Standard Novels" (Gilson). Gilson D1, D3, D4, D5. A NEAR COMPLETE SET OF THIS SERIES. Rare: we were unable to locate a set this complete at auction.
