A Brussels Mythological Tapestry
By Hendrik II Reydams, Last Quarter 17th/ First Quarter 18th Century
woven in metal threads, wool and silk, depicting Jupiter with his staff and accompanying eagle abducting the young Ganymede attended by his loyal hound, both shown in a cloud above a wooded landscape, within a lavish border of flowers, fruit and plant motifs, the brown outer slip with the Brussels town mark and weaver’s initials ‘HR’.
Height 12 feet 4 inches x width 8 feet 10 inches.
