Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A pair of field glasses with presentation engraving to J. R. Davies of London, March 1864.
Pair of brass binoculars marked for D. Marr, London on ocular lens rims. 9 1/4 in. overall fully extended, with leather covering to barrels. Housed in a leather carrying case with brass fittings. When focus wheel is fully opened, engravings are revealed reading, "Presented to Mr. J. R. Davies of the Railway Clearing House, London by his fellow Clerks / as a token of regard and esteem and of their best wishes for his future welfare. March 1864."
Amateur etching into sun shade reads, "Lt. J. Davies / 53 / PVI," though an HDS search did not yield any results for the surname Davies in the 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
