Each inscribed to interior front cover: "Grand Pa Schuh Presented Paul Gatfleisch[?] with these books Aug. 12 1901 after being used during Civil War by him from Aug. 7. 1861 to 1863. J A Schuh, Captain of 99th P.V."
[With:] The Hero of Medfield; Containing the Journals and Letters of Allen Alonzo Kingsbury...Mass. 1st Reg...Killed...near Yorktown, April 26, 1862. Boston: John M. Hewes, 1862.
Adam Schuh enlisted as a captain on 17 August 1861, being commissioned into Company D of the 99th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment the same day. He served with the regiment for one and a half years before resigning his post on 29 January 1863.
