Lot Description

O'SULLIVAN, Timothy (1840-1882), photographer. McClean House, Appomattox Court-House, Virginia.

McLean's House, Appomattox Court-House, Virginia, Where the Capitulation was Signed between Generals Grant and Lee. Albumen silver print, 6 15/16 × 9 1/8 in., affixed to later cardstock mount, approx. 9 × 11 1/16 in. overall. With partial printed label including credit to the photographer, Timothy O'Sullivan, the printer, Alexander Gardner, 1866 copyright, image title, date, and plate number. From Gardner’s Photographic Sketchbook of the Civil War, Vol. II, plate 99), April 1865. The descriptive label from Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook is also enclosed.
