Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 16 sixth plate daguerreotypes housed in pairs within double-sided flip cases.

A pair of portraits featuring a man and woman, each posed in the same studio setting with the notable fringed ends of braided cord hanging in the background. (Some weeping and other minor imperfections, oxidation spotting to mats, adhesive residue to glass.) Housed front-to-back in a hand-painted case with mother-of-pearl inlay (surface crackling, general wear, some losses). -- A pair of portraits featuring a man and a woman, the woman seated in an ornate carved chair with concave upholstered armrests and a studio pillar next to her. The man's portrait does not show any furniture or studio decoration, and his face looks somewhat perturbed or contemplative. (Both portraits rather crisp, the woman's having a few notable scratches and otherwise minor imperfections, the man's having a few light spots.) Housed front-to-back in a completely separated hand-painted case with mother-of-pearl inlay (front and back covers are completely separated from case but present in lot). -- And 6 other pairs, some housed in completely separated cases with pieces and parts missing or significant losses. Conditions vary. -- Together, 8 pairs of sixth plate daguerreotypes.
