A Rare and Important Painted, Carved and Turned Slat-Back Armchair
Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey, Circa 1740-1750
made for Reverend Abel Morgan (1713-1785), pastor of the Middletown Baptist Church; displaying elaborate turnings, a shaped splat, and "ram's horn" armrest terminals, retaining old black paint, with rush seat.
Height 43 3/4 x width 26 x depth 19 inches.
