A Chippendale Carved Cherrywood Desk and Bookcase
Likely Salem County, New Jersey, Circa 1760-1780
the book case entablature with dentil molding above applied vine, enclosed by fluted corner columns, the desk opens to an elaborate shell-carved serpentine interior, the removable prospect section reveals hidden access panel and is inscribed in graphite, "Property of John Gosling/ afterward [property] of Boston Gosling/ afterward [property] of Hannah C. Casperson/ Feby 1881/ afterward [property of] Jonathan W. Acton/ 1901," conforming fluted corner columns, ogival feet.
