LIMITED EDITION, number 1,058 of 2,000 copies, SIGNED BY TING, EDITOR SAM FRANCIS, AND PUBLISHER E.W. KORNFELD. Walesse Ting was a Chinese-American visual artist who began his artistic career in the 1950s after moving to Paris. There, he made the acquaintance of members of the artists' group CoBrA. who inspired him to move to the United States in 1957. In addition to visual art, Ting became notable for his poetry and was a regular collaborator with Allen Ginsberg and Gary Snyder.
1 Cent Life features lithographs by Ting, Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Enrico Baj, Alan Davie, Sam Francis, Robert Indiana, Asger Jorn, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Claes Oldenburg, Mel Ramos, Robert Rauschenberg, Joan Mitchell, Allan Kaprow, Rinehound, Jim Dine, Jean-Paul Riopelle, James Rosenquist; Antonio Saura, Kimber Smith, K.R.H. Sonderberg, Bram Van Velde; Oyvind Fahlstrom, Andy Warhol, and Tom Wesselmann. The book was inspired by Tang's desire to bring together international pop and avant-garde artists into one volume, which would be additionally accompanied by his own poetry.
