FAULKNER, William (1897-1962). Go Down Moses. New York: Random House, 1942.

8vo. Original half salmon red cloth, gilt-lettered spine, top edge gilt (small spot of rubbing near spine end). Provenance: Carl Petersen (his collection, offered at Serendipity Books, 1991, catalogue 48, p.199).

THE CARL PETERSEN/PRINTER'S FILE COPY, stamped "The Haddon Craftsmen Inc. Job No. 51740." The job number is filled in by hand.

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, one of 100 copies, SIGNED BY FAULKNER, this copy unnumbered. This is the smallest limitation of any of Faulkner's limited, signed editions and is among his scarcest books. Thomas Verich, curator of the Faulkner Collection at the University of Mississippi, locates fewer than 50 copies in his 1991 census (see Mississippi Quarterly 44.3 (Summer 1991), pp.337-345). This copy is listed in the census as one of the three unnumbered, out-of-series copies ("Copy owned by Peter Howard and Jeffery Marx (Carl Petersen's copy)"). Petersen A23.2a (this copy).

This lot is located in Chicago.
