16mo. (Some very mild intermittent spotting.) Original maroon cloth gilt (light rubbing, mild darkening to spine).
FIRST EDITION. IN THE FIRST STATE BINDING with "JRO & CO" monogram on upper cover. A True Story and The Recent Carnival of Crime were each published in The Atlantic Monthly, with the first appearing in November 1874 and the second in June 1876; they appeared together for the first time in Sketches New and Old (1875).
