FIRST EDITION. INSCRIBED BY HINSDALE on the title-page. After earning his M.D. from Cleveland Homeopathic Medical College in 1887, Hinsdale joined the University of Michigan, where he became Professor and later Dean of the Homeopathic Medical College (1895–1922). Upon retiring from medicine, he turned to archaeology, developing and curating the university’s collections on Michigan’s Native American history. He also helped establish the Michigan Archaeological Society and authored three major works that advanced the systematic recording and preservation of the state’s archaeological sites.
