Lot Description

FAULKNER, William (1897-1962). Salmagundi by William Faulkner and a Poem by Ernest M. Hemingway. Milwaukee: The Casanova Press, 1932.


Tall 8vo. Portrait frontispiece of Faulkner, tipped in. Original textured stiff-paper wrappers printed in red and black, uncut; publisher's slipcase (light wear and uneven sunning to extremities); folding cloth chemise and morocco-backed slipcase.

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 410 of 525 copies. Second binding, as usual, with pages centered uniformly, top to bottom. In addition to Hemingway's four-line poem entitled "Ultimately," which is printed on the lower cover, Salmagundi contains five poems and three prose pieces by Faulkner. Hemingway's poem had previously appeared alongside Faulkner's "Portrait" in the June 1922 issue of the New Orleans Double Dealer. Petersen A11.1b. AN EXTRAORDINARILY FINE COPY.
