Lot Description

MCCARTHY, Cormac (1933-2023). No Country for Old Men. New Orleans: B.E. Trice, 2005.

8vo. Original morocco-backed marbled boards, gilt-lettered spine; publisher's slipcase.

LIMITED EDITION, number 213 of 325 copies, SIGNED BY MCCARTHY. No Country for Old Men was originally conceived as an original screenplay, with its title taken from the first line of the 1926 Yeats poem "Sailing to Byzantium." Because of this, McCarthy's novel is a marked stylistic departure from his previous work, adopting a much simpler and more streamlined prose. Joel and Ethan Cohen would later adapt the novel into a 2007 motion picture of the same name, which went on to win four Academy Awards, including for Best Picture.
