Lot Description
LA FONTAINE, Jean de (1621-1695). Les Amours de Psyché et de Cupidon. Paris: P. Fr. Didot, 1791.
Royal 4to (343 x 260 mm). 4 stipple-engraved plates printed in color after Frederic Schall; 1p. publisher's ad at end. (Spotting throughout, some toning.) Late 19th century red morocco gilt, spine 7 compartments with 6 raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, others gilt, top edge gilt, others uncut, gilt stamp-signed by Riviere & Sons (light rubbing to joints and fore-corners). Provenance: Lucinda C. Collins (given to:) Philadelphia College of Art (bookplate).
A superb example of early engravings printed in color. Cohen-de Ricci 582; Rochambeau 20 ("belle édition").
