Original yellow and blue cloth (rubbing, old adhesive ghosting to both covers, spine leaning, light discoloration along foot and top edge affecting endpapers, small remainder mark on foot of text block). Original dust jacket (light fading to spine, notation in pen beneath price, a few spots of discoloration to corners).
FIRST EDITION IN UNCLIPPED FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET. The Haunting of Hill House was the third novel and remains her best known, its indelible mark on the horror genre having inspired such luminaries as Neil Gaiman, Joanne Harris, Damon Knight, and Stephen King, who listed it as one of the finest horror novels of the 20th century in Danse Macabre. The book was later adapted into the 1963 film The Haunting, a 1999 remake of the same name, and a 2018 Netflix series directed by Mike Flanagan.
