Half-titles; engraved frontispiece portrait of Gibbon by John Hall after Joshua Reynolds, 2 large engraved folding maps; errata in vols.2 and 3; General Index at end of vol.6. (Some spotting, mostly to preliminaries including titles, offsetting and spotting to plates.) Modern calf-backed marbled boards. Provenance: Samuel Herbert (armorial bookplate); Rev. W.E. Taylor (gift inscription); presented to the London Church Missionary Society (stamp on front free endpaper).
