Lot Description

[FLAGS]. 37-star American parade flag with "Great Star" configuration. Ca 1867-1876. 


7 1/2 x 11 1/4 in. silk flag with 38 stars arranged in a "Great Star" configuration. This particular "Great Star" consists of twenty-five stars in its outline, nine stars inside of the outline, and four flanking stars surrounding the outline, which are slightly larger than the others. With gold-colored, silk fringe border sewn along three sides of the flag. The hoist end is affixed to a partial staff. Framed for display, 15 1/2 x 18 1/2 in. overall.

The 37-star flag commemorates the statehood of Nebraska, which was admitted to the Union in March 1867.
