Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. A collection of 85 stereoviews from "The War for the Union" series. E. & H.T. Anthony, New York.


85 stereoviews on cardstock mounts, majority with Anthony's "The War for the Union" series title on mount recto. Four views are published by Selden & Co., Quinby & Co., and Olden, Sawyer & Co. Most versos with applied paper label listing image number, title, and occasional credit to the photographer. Some examples are hand colored. Two stereoviews are affixed to larger cardstock mounts.

Content includes camp life, battlefields, forts, ships, artillery, landmarks, ceremonies such as the Grand Review, and more.

Highlighted titles include: Woods on the left wing, Battle of Gettysburgh; in the middle ground a dead soldier.
