Lot Description

ANDERSON, David H. (1827-1905), photographer. Four cabinet cards of Sioux Indians from Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, incl. Julie Nelson. New York, ca 1886.


4 cabinet photographs on cardstock mounts, Two with "Buffalo Bill's Wild West" mark on mount recto and the imprint of "Anderson, 785 Broadway, NY," on recto and/or verso. The subjects were photographed while performing in New York with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show in 1886. The following subjects are included: Julie Nelson, who performed in Buffalo Bill's Wild West shows as a "Princess of the Sioux Nation." -- American Horse, "Warrior Chief of the Sioux Nation," with pistol in hand. -- Unidentified man, possibly Oglala or Cheyenne. -- Group portrait of eight Lakota performers, including Flies Above standing second from left and Yellow Horse, John Nelson's son, standing second from right. -- Together, 4 cabinet photographs.
