Lot Description

A group of 11 stereoviews documenting Sitting Bull's internment at Fort Randall, Dakota Territory. Bailey, Dix, and Mead, 1882.


11 stereoviews on cardstock mounts. Versos with printed number, title, information of subject, list of titles in series, and Bailey, Dix, & Mead credit. The photographs were taken by William R. Cross at Fort Randall during Sitting Bull's internment before being transferred to Standing Rock in May of 1883.

For nearly two years after his 19 July 1881, surrender at Fort Buford, Sitting Bull was held as a prisoner of war at Fort Randall in Dakota Territory. These photos, dating from that time span, include:
