Lot Description
BELL, Charles M. (1848-1893), photographer. Three mammoth plate photographs of Native American delegates. Washington, DC, ca 1877.
3 mammoth plate albumen photographs, approx. 19 x 15 1/2 in. or smaller (including margins), on 20 x 18 in. cardstock mounts with names and tribal identifications written in the negatives.
A trio of important studio portraits taken by Charles M. Bell while the Native leaders were in Washington, DC, for treaty delegations. Subjects include: Eagle Plume, Kansa, ca 1877. -- White Cloud (also called White Thunder), Brule Sioux, 1880. -- White Eagle (also Scares the Bears), Ponca, 14 November 1877.
