Lot Description
[JACKSON, William Henry (1843-1942), photographer]. Two photographs of Indian encampments, one with scalp on shield in the foreground. Ca early 1870s.
2 albumen photographs showing tipis in a prairie setting, approx. 8 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, on 9 x 6 1/2 in. cardstock mounts, lacking studio imprints but originally taken by William Henry Jackson. Includes: Tipis of Gi-he-ga, an Omaha chief. -- A view of a temporary camp site comprised of tipis constructed with buffalo skins and cedar poles. Note the scalp on the shield in the foreground. This image has also been credited to William S. Soule.
