Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. [JACKSON, William Henry (1843-1942, photographer]. Cabinet card of armed Pawnee warriors.
Cabinet photograph with imprint on mount below, "Department of the Interior, / US Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories. / F.V. Hayden, US Geologist, in Charge." The subjects, who are identified in the negative, include La-roo-rut-ka-haw La-shar (Night Chief) and La-roo-ra-shar-roo-cosh (Man That Left His Enemy Lying in the Water). The Pawnee warriors pose before a studio backdrop wearing large medallions and holding a muzzle-loading long rifle and a tomahawk.
The image was possibly taken in late May or early June of 1868.
