[CIVIL WAR]. LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865). Naval appointment signed ("Abraham Lincoln") as President. 17 July 1862. Countersigned by Gideon Welles.
One page, approx. 14 x 17 in., framed to 15 x 18 in. Significant creasing, some dampstaining and wear to edges. Embossed seal at bottom.
Appointing Arthur Burtis Jr. an Assistant Paymaster in the United States Navy.
Burtis Jr. would receive later promotions long after the Civil War, including to Pay Inspector (1891) and Pay Director (1899).
