fourth quarter 19th century

cover created using thin, softly tanned hide; painted in red, green, and yellow; with imagery of the sun and moon, four Thunderbirds, and an ethereal horned being; hairlocks wrapped with yarn and cotton fabric surround the outer edge; drawstring closure

a rawhide shield is placed tightly inside; shield has two thick straps coated in green pigment
