Lot Description
Fred Kabotie
signed lower right; verso with a copy of a typed letter from Frederick Dockstader:
March 15, 1986
You have probably heard directly from Michael, but if not, Fred Kabotie put on the cloud mask and joined his beloved Kachina friends on February 28th, just a week after his 86th birthday.
The art world has lost a great figure; the Hopi have lost a great champion, and we have lost a beloved friend. He was one [of] the very last of that great generation of people who did so much to help erase the Native art label, and lived to see it become fine art.
I shall miss his twinkling eyes, ready laugh and warm smile - even more, his devotion to the Hopi way.
Pas lólomai,
Fred
(sight) 5-1/4 x 8 inches; (framed) 14-1/2 x 1-1/2 inches
