A Japanese Blue and White Porcelain Ovoid Jar, 17th century
With vertical lip and spreading foot, decorated with various figures in stylized landscapes after European models.
NOTE: Rapidly-drawn decorative motifs, such as those found on the present jar were directly inspired by European blue and white tin-glazed earthenwares, particularly circa 1660-1680, which were in turn based on Chinese examples.
