Lot Description

A Japanese Eight-Legged Negoro and Black Lacquer Low Temple Table, Edo Period
Edo Period (1615-1868)

The single top panel set within a rectangular frame with beaded borders, above two groups of cabriole legs with half scroll feet connected by a stretcher, the top panel lacquered red, the top frame and legs lacquered black, decorated with metal mounts and mother-of-inlaid flower heads.
Note:
This table is associated with Shintō rituals, particularly with Kasuga-taisha, the important Shintō shrine in Nara.
Length 36 x Height 18 3/4 x Depth 16 1/4 in., 91.44 x 47.6 x 41.3 cm.
