A Very Fine Mughal Miniature Folio: A Ragamala Painting Illustrating a Ragini Scene from the Karwa Chauth Ritual, 19th Century

Recto with ink, colors, and gold on paper, the painting mounted onto the illuminated manuscript leaf, the reverse with black and red inscriptions, margins with black-outlined gold multi-colored floral sprays.
Note:
Married Hindu women in North India participate in Karwa Chauth, a day-long fast for the longevity and well-being of their husbands, broken only after sighting the moon. It is a day that celebrates the love and bonding between couples, highlighting the emotional and relational aspects of marriage.
