Presentation copy, inscribed by the author, William K. Vanderbilt, to Vincent Astor: "To / Vincent Astor / With the compliments of the author / W.K. Vanderbilt / Dec. 25 1933". Large 4to. (ii), xx, 379, (3) pp. Text printed in red and in black. Illustrated with seven color plates (each with captioned tissue guard) and numerous black and white photographic reproductions and color maps. Publisher's deluxe quarter navy blue levant over blue-green paper-covered boards, lettered in gilt, front board with a gilt, blue, and red motif of Vanderbilt's yacht, Alva's flag, light rubbing to boards and extremities, scattered soiling; top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed; pictorial map endpapers.

A fine presentation copy of this deluxe issue, chronicling William K. Vanderbilt II's (1878-1944) voyage to the South Seas aboard his yacht, the Alva. Inscribed to Vincent Astor (1891-1959), eldest son of business magnate, John Jacob Astor IV.
